Volunteers Needed to Help Launch MWA Southern Maryland Chapter

MWA member Nancy Smay is looking for writers, readers, and other fans of the written word to help launch a new MWA chapter in southern Maryland!

Please read Nancy’s message below, and if you’re interested in helping her get this project off the ground, please drop her a line at nancysmay@gmail.com. If you live in southern Maryland, this is your opportunity to help build a new chapter from the ground up!

Hello:

I’m writing in hopes of organizing a launch event for the Southern Maryland Chapter of the Maryland Writers Association.

I’m Nancy Smay – aka Delancey Stewart – a local writer, military spouse and mother of tiny children, living in Callaway. I’m hoping to pull together an active group that can help celebrate the local authors in our community. My goal is to do several things:

  • Provide a community for local writers, both social and professional
  • Foster interaction between local writers and residents (readers!)
  • Bring promotional opportunities to writers working to build a larger readership
  • Offer experienced speakers and workshops to help local writers grow our craft and learn about the changing business of the publishing industry

To start a chapter, we need about 10 interested members, some of whom might be willing to serve “officer” roles, which hopefully wouldn’t entail too much time.

I’d like to organize a launch event – probably at the library or perhaps the Fenwick Street bookshop or coffee house — to meet and discuss organization going forward.

This email is intended to gauge interest and availability. Here are the dates I’m considering. Could you please let me know your interest and availability?

Thanks so much for any support (even if its just saying that you might be able to attend!)

  • Saturday, February 23rd, 3pm
  • Sunday, February 17, 3pm

Please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested, and don’t hesitate to contact me directly at nancysmay@gmail.com with questions.

The MWA website can be found here to answer any general questions about the purposes of the organization: http://www.marylandwriters.org/index.html.

Thanks,

Nancy Smay
