Open Mic Night at MWA Howard County Chapter Tonight

(Transcribing your work into “Yoda” is strictly optional.)

This being vacation season, there will be almost no turnout, so we have here a wonderful opportunity for shy writers to practice staring down at their manuscripts as they whisper to no one in particular.

Since everyone will have figured this out, I recommend getting your name in right away, to reserve a spot. Reply! You won’t be turned away for not having done so, but please do so anyway. It will demonstrate your true character.

Even better: e-mail Howard County Chapter President Glen Spangler with the first one to three lines of your piece.

7:00 p.m. tonight at: Sunrise Senior Living of Columbia, 6500 Freetown Road, Columbia, MD 21044.

Montgomery County Chapter Powers Up for Writers of All Kinds

In June, the Montgomery Chapter of the Maryland Writers Association (MWA) “stood up” and was counted into the Maryland Writers Association. Now the new chapter is looking for amateur and published writers.

“Our chapter consists of writers of all kinds,” says Alix Moore, interim president of MWA Montgomery. “We are here to support our members whether they are just starting out or want to increase book sales.”

Moore says chapter activities include community outreach, member readings, and writing workshops. “You don’t have to be a Montgomery County resident to join us,” Moore adds. “All are welcome.”

Monthly chapter meetings are at the VisArts Center in Rockville Town Center and alternate between the second Wednesday (7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and the first Saturday (10 a.m. to noon) of every month. The first meeting is free.

MWA Montgomery is an affiliate of the Maryland Writers’ Association. MWA members of in chapters across the state organization pay dues of $40/year and benefit from the many opportunities and MWA offers, including an annual writers conference, writing competitions, and the opportunity to join critique groups.
